Fuochi d'artificio

2010 will be a year rich in events dedicated to culture, tradition and quality food and wine.

The glorious history of past times and handed-down traditions keep living on today much stronger than ever. Just think of the celebrations put up for the Pisan New Year on the 25th March, for the Gioco del Ponte (Bridge Game), the Luminara (Illuminations) and the Historical Regatta of San Ranieri, all old-time events characterizing the Giugno Pisano celebrations; there is the Wheeled Punt Race in June at Castelfranco di Sotto, a modern-day development of the ancient tradition of the race run by the oarsmen of Castelfranco on their "punts" in the waters of the river Arno; there are the evocative medieval feasts, in the Etruscan city of Volterra at the end of August, in the wonderful historical centre of Vicopisano and at Montopoli in Val d'Arno in September, with penetrating reconstructions of a medieval environment, historical groups, encampments, travelling musicians and theatrical theme shows. Also in September, Volterra revamps with Medieval verve with the Astiludio, a tournament of flag wavers parading in a unique setting to the sound of drum rolls, peals and clarion blares.
